Noted poet and lyricist Vangapandu Prasad Rao on Thursday launched a new party `Vangapandu Prajadandu’ for the development of backward north-Andhra region.
Talking to media persons after formally floating the new party in the district, Vangapandu said that the new party would work for self-respect and development of Uttarandhra people. He accused the successive governments in the State and Centre of being responsible for the backwardness in the region.
Despite the country achieving independence about 65 years ago, the development in the Uttarandhra region was not up to mark compared to other parts in the state, he pointed out. Though the region is represented by five MPs and 30 MLAs in the Parliament and State Assembly respectively, the people’s representatives failed to fulfill aspirations of people, he stated.
Vangapandu said that his party would create awareness among people in the region over the backwardness and make efforts to eradicate corruption. Stating that new party would contest in the next elections, he said top priority would be given to youth in distribution of tickets.
Besides working to keep the State united, he said that his party would work for the overall development of all backward regions in the State.
