Information and Public Relations Minister DK Aruna assured the State Legislative Assembly of taking effective measures to curb cinema piracy.
Replying to a question raised by MLA K Kannababu during Question Hour, the minister said that based on the information from producers, a close surveillance has been kept on known video pirates. On receipt of complaint from the producer of the cinema or suo moto, cases are registered under Sections 51, 52A, 63, 63A, as applicable of AP Exhibition of Films on TV Screen through Video Cassette Recorders Regulation Act, 1993. The pirated CDs are seized, the accused arrested and remanded to judicial custody, she said.
The minister said that so far, 3,924 cases have been registered in this regard.
