Former Congress minister P Shankar Rao on Tuesday demanded that the State Government pass a resolution on Telangana State issue in the Assembly immediately to prevent suicides in the region.
Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, Shankar Rao said the Assembly should pass a resolution before the situation in Telangana region goes out of control following the suicide of students for the cause of statehood. He also appealed to the Congress High Command to make concerted efforts to resolve the Telangana issue permanently. “This is the right time for the government to resolve the Telangana issue as the parliament and State Assembly sessions are going on simultaneously. The government can take steps for introducing Telangana Bill in the Parliament,” he said.
Dr Shankar Rao said that the dissidence and internal conflicts in the party have deepened the political crisis in the State and badly hit the Congress party's image among the people. He appealed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to make concrete efforts to resolve the internal conflicts and strengthen the party before the ensuing by-elections for 18 Assembly constituencies and local body polls.
The former minister also condemned Congress leaders for not responding to YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy's criticism on Congress party and high command. If all leaders effectively counter Jagan's criticism, the party would win the by-elections with a thumping majority, he claimed.
