Tension prevailed at the Basheerbagh on Friday when the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti launched Atma Gaurav Yatra in protest against the attack on Handlooms and Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao.
Led by MRPS founder Manda Krishna Madiga, the activists launched the Atma Gaurav Yatra at Babu Jagjivanram statue demanding that the government immediately arrest Karthik Reddy, the son of Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, for his alleged involvement in the attack on Minister Shankar Rao. However, police took the activists including Krishna Madiga into custody. The MRPS activists had a heated argument with the police over the arrest of Krishna Madiga.
MRPS president Bhaskar Madiga and Secretary Surender Madiga were also taken into custody by the police and all were shifted to the Nampally police station.
Talking to reporters, Krishna Madiga accused the government of shielding Karthik Reddy as he was the son of Home Minister. He said that the MRPS would stage dharnas and rallies on December 26 across the State protesting the attack on Shankar Rao.
The MRPS would also take out a massive rally from Shankar Rao’s residence to NTR Nagar, where he was attacked, on December 27.
