TDP Mahila wing holds protest against inflation

The women's wing of Telugu Desam Party on Monday demanded that the State Government take immediate steps to control the rising prices of essential commodities in the State.

Talking to reporters at Hyderabad Collectorate, where the party's women wing held a dharna on Monday, TDP Mahila president Shoba Hymavathi said that the government lacks proper mechanism to check the prices of essential commodities. Accusing the government of adopting a non-serious attitude, she demanded that the government take steps on war-footing to contain the rising inflation.

Hymavathi also criticised the state government's spending for publicity of official prorammes like Rachabanda and other schemes. She said instead of wasting money on publicity drives, the same could be utilised to subsidise the essential commodities being supplied to the poor and middle class.

Earlier, about 50 women activists staged an hour-long dharna before the Hyderabad Collectorate. They raised slogans against the government's failure to contain rising prices. Some women also tried to cook food on the street in protest. However, all the activists were arrested by the police and shifted to the Nampally police station. They were later released on bail.
