Vijayamma misled HC on Naidu's case: TDP

The Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday alleged that YSR Congress MLA YS Vijayamma has misled the Andhra Pradesh High Court by furnishing wrong information in her petition.

Talking to reporters at NTR Trust Bhavan, former minister Kadiam Srihari said that Vijayamma's petition, filed in the high court seeking probe into TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu's alleged illegal assets, was full of factual errors. He said that Vijayamma has misled the court by filing wrong information related to several issues.

Kadiam pointed out that Vijayamma in her petition alleged that the Yeluru scam was of Rs 400 crore. Stating that the figure was highly inflated, he denied the involvement of any TDP leader including Chandrababu Naidu in the misappropriation of funds in the acquisition of land for the construction of a canal, steel plant and weaker sections housing in Eluru during the TDP's regime. He said an amount of Rs 15.31 crore was released by the State Government through five different GOs issued between October 1995 and September 1996. Therefore, the figure of Rs 400 crore is highly inflated, he said.

The former minister claimed that the following reports of misappropriation of funds, the TDP Government ordered an enquiry through CB-CID on December 9, 1996. Further, an enquiry was also ordered through Principal Secretary S Ray. Later, a judicial enquiry was also ordered into the scam in February 1997. He said the TDP government adopted a transparent and fair approach by ordering independents probes.

Kadiam said that Vijayamma used wrong and inflated figures in her petition. He said either she intentionally misled the court or she herself was misled by others who prepared the petition. He also slammed the High Court for ordering the CBI probe against Naidu without verifying the basic facts. He reiterated that the CBI probe through High Court order was aimed at tarnishing the image of Chandrababu Naidu.

Speaking about Telangana, Kadiam apprehended that the Centre might delay the decision on the statehood issue by taking Uttar Pradesh case as an excuse. It may be mentioned that Mayawati's BSP Government on Monday passed a resolution in the Uttar Pradesh assembly to divide the state into four parts. Kadiam said that the UP's developments might create some obstacles in the formation of Telangana state.
