Telangana Congress Steering Committee Chairman K Keshava Rao on Monday stated that the Telangana Congress MPs would take harsh decisions if the Centre announces any unfavourable decision on Telangana statehood issue.
Talking to media persons after the meeting of Congress MPs from the region held at MP Komatireddy Rajagopal's residence, Keshava Rao said that the MPs would not agree for any kind of financial package, regional councils or the establishment of second States Reorganisation Commission on the Telangana statehood issue. Except for granting statehood for the region, the Telangana leaders would not agree for any other alternative, he made it clear. He called upon leaders to be ready to sacrifice anything for the cause of Telangana statehood.
Keshava Rao said that the MPs would demand for the introduction of Telangana bill and stage protests in New Delhi when the winter session of Parliament begins on November 22. If the Centre fails to announce any decision on Telangana during the Parliament session, he said that the MPs would submit their resignations and go for fresh elections, if needed.
Bhongir MP Rajagopal said that there were no differences among Congress MPs over the statehood issue as being reported in a section of media. He asked the media not to create differences among MPs.
In the meeting, the MPs have decided to appeal Congress president Sonia Gandhi to announce a decision on Telangana in the Parliament session. The meeting discussed threadbare over the statement of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh that consensus was needed to take a decision on Telangana. The MPs also discussed the strategy to be adopted in the event of Centre announces unfavourable stand on Telangana state.
