Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday called upon Telangana political leaders to take the statehood agitation forward with grit and commitment.
Talking to media persons, Ponnam said that it was the responsibility of Telangana leaders to take the agitation forward, fulfilling the long dreams and aspirations of people in the region. Thanking the employees for continuing their agitation for 42 days demanding bifurcation of the State, he said that the strike has changed the attitude of Centre towards Telangana and forced it to take an early decision on the statehood issue.
Ponnam said that the Telangana leaders would teach a fitting lesson to those, who made attempts to break the general strike of employees and betrayed the interests of Telangana. He said that the political leaders across party lines would continue their fight for Telangana and mount pressure on the Centre to announce a decision in favour of it.
The Congress MP was confident that the leaders from the region would make united and concrete efforts by sinking differences for the statehood agitation. “It is wrong to predict that the agitation was diluted after the employees called off their stir,” he said and added that the now the political leaders would agitate for statehood more vigorously and with strong force never seen before.
Ponnam advised the Telangana Ministers to make a resolution on the impact of employees’ general strike in the State and send it to Centre stressing the need for formation of separate State.
