Boycott liquor, Seemandhra products for Telangana

In a move that could have serious economic implications on the general public, the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee on Friday called upon Telangana people to boycott products from Seemandhra region.

Talking to reporters, TPJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram asked the people to boycott Seemandhra Andhra products, as a part of general strike going on in the region. He also asked the people not to pay toll tax, water and current bills to intensify the people’s general strike.

Prof Kodandaram also came out with a novel idea of causing loss to the state’s exchequer. He asked the people from Telangana region to stop drinking liquor, just like Muslims, till the Telangana state is formed. He said this would serve two purposed.  Since Telangana is the major contributor of excise income to the state’s exchequer, it would badly hit the state’s economy and the centre would be forced to announce Telangana, he hoped.

The JAC chairman said that the Telangana state formation was mainly obstructed by Centre, Seemandra leaders and those who failed to resign for Telangana statehood. He asked the Telangana people to show their strength by intensifying the agitation for bifurcation of the state. The people’s general strike should paralyse the administration in the State, he said.

Prof Kodandaram said that the people in the State were not ready to believe Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s stance on corruption that he has adopted now. Asking Naidu to make his stand clear on Telangana, he advised him to shoulder national flag and fight for separate statehood like he is doing for anti-corruption agitation.

The JAC chief asked as to why the Telangana Congress leaders were afraid of submitting resignations afresh for the Telangana state.

Earlier, he took part in the round-table conference organized by Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s Labour Wing at Telangana Bhavan. TRS politburo member Nayani Narsimha Reddy also addressed the media and slammed those who failed to resign for the cause of separate Telangana.
