Jagan's impact: Worried CM holds emergency meeting

The latest move by the Kadapa MP and YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in making 29 legislators resign from their posts appeared to have shaken the Chief Minsiter N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who convened an emergency meeting with the available ministers at his camp office here on Monday.

Those who attended the meeting include Deputy Chief Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha, Revenue Minister N Raguveera Reddy, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, Civil Supplies Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, R&B Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, Municipal Administation Minister M Maheedhar Reddy and Marketing Minister Mukesh Goud. Union Minister for Textiles Panabaka Laxmi and former Speaker KR Suresh Reddy also attended the meeting.

The Chief Minister is understood to have asked the ministers to play their role to convince the pro-Jagan MLAs to reverse their loyalties. So far 29 congress legislators owing their allegiance to YS Jagan submitted their resignation letters to the Assembly Secretary Sadaram in the absence of Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar who is away in Guntur district on tour. Konda Surekha, Parakala Jayasudha Kapoor from secunderabad and another MLA Kunja Satyavathi from Bhadrachalam have already tendered their resignations for Telangana but they were are still pending with the Speaker.

In a move to protect his government, the chief minister has hinted at giving more powers to the the cabinet colleagues and asked the in-charge ministers to attend to the problems faced by the people in their respective constituencies on priority basis.

Meanwhile, the political analysts say that contrary to the expectations of Jagan Mohan Reddy to pull the NKR Government, the current 'situation' has not gone out of hands. The government is quite safe. What the YSR Congress had planned to push the NKR Government into a predicament or dilemma may not fructify with a meagre strength of 30 and odd legislators. The decision was taken as a rejoinder to oppose the current unprecendented raids on his offices and residences and that of Emaar properties across the country.

Considering the current mood of the tax-payer, the fight against corruption being spearheaded by social activist Anna Hazare, took a positive turn with the  entire nation joining his forces and expressing their solidarity. The ground swell was such that even political parties had begun to extend their open support to the Gandhian who has already started his peaceful fast at Ramlila Maidan in New delhi.

Presently, the oppposition parties are forced to join the battle against corruption and that's the reason why the TDP supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu could not offer a helping hand to Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is surrounded by allegations of corruption. With the Jagan's case being monitored directly by the High Court, the CBI would not bow to any political pressure in unraveling the truth.

These factors have ensured the survival of the NKR Government. However, the scene might change if Jagan convinces more Congress MLAs to revolt from the party and resign.
