All parties except BJP differed on T issue: Chidambaram

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday reiterated the Centre’s oft-repeated statement that only unanimity can solve the separate Telangana statehood issue.

Talking to media persons here, Mr Chidambaram said that the problem could be solved with cooperation of all parties.

The consensus can be reached with unanimous opinion of all parties on the issue, he stated and added that Congress In-Charge Of State Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad was holding discussions with various constituents to bring about unanimity of opinion.

“It is natural for parties to differ on one issue. However, consensus can be reached only through dialogue,” Mr Chidambaram pointed out.

He also stated that the December 9, 2009 and December 23, 2009 statements were made on behalf of the Centre and were not made his personal.

Stating all parties, except for the Bharatiya Janata Party, were divided on the separate statehood issue, Mr Chidambaram appealed to Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu to make efforts for finding a unanimous opinion with his party members on the issue.

“It is not good to blame the Centre for the crisis. All party leaders should make efforts for solving the issue” the Union Home Minister stated.
