Condemning the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, which claimed more than 18 people lives and injured 131, Telugu Desam Politburo member Erram Naidu on Friday demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram owning moral responsibility for his failure in security maintenance in Maharashtra state.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of politburo meeting held at NTR Trust Bhavan under the chairmanship of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Erram Naidu said that the party has condemned the incident and expressed sympathies to next to kin of family members.
Holding the Intelligence Bureau and Union Home Minister responsible for their failure in discharging duties effectively, he demanded resignation of Chidambaram to his post. He also condemned the statement of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi for stating irresponsibly `no one can stop blasts and there are routine.’
Regretting the Rahul Gandhi comments, he said the remarks are not suitable to his responsible position. Erram Naidu said the politburo also discussed the strategy to be adopted in Lok Sabha over the draft of Lok Pal, a bill to prevent corruption at higher levels.
The meeting also condemned the state government’s indifferent attitude in addressing farmers’ problems and its failure to provide minimum support price to farm produce. It also condemned government decision to increase fares of State Road Transport Corporation burdening the poor and middle class people and demanded roll back of prices immediately. The meeting also focused on students scholarships and other problems. He said the party would intensify agitation against anti-people policies of government.
