Azad's knowledge of Indian Constitution

As expected, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Wednesday reacted sharply to Congress In-Charge for Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad ruling out any moves on the separate Telangana statehood demand until there is a ‘full consensus’ among all the political parties across the state on the issue.

Talking to media persons at his residence at Banjara Hills, TRS MLA K Taraka Rama Rao said that the statement by Mr Azad was not only irresponsible, but was also made without an understanding of the country’s Constitution.

“Mr Azad’s statement that a unanimous resolution should be passed by the state Assembly is irresponsible. He has made such comments without understanding the Indian Constitution,” the young Sircilla MLA said. KTR further pointed out that there was no need for any resolution to be passed in the state Assembly for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. “Gujarat state was carved out of Maharashtra without any resolution being passed,” the MLA pointed out.

“Mr Azad’s words are not suitable for someone who holds a Union Minister’s position. The Centre can take any decision on the separate statehood issue without a unanimous resolution being passed in the state Assembly,” the TRS leader continued.

KTR further held the Congress responsible for the political uncertainty in the state and alleged that development in Seemandhra and Telangana regions have been hampered due to the ‘irresponsible attitude’ of the ruling Congress.

The TRS leader also demanded that Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana respond to Mr Azad’s comments and make their stand clear on the issue. Besides this, KTR also called upon all Telangana leaders and activists to make the Rail Roko programme called by Telangana Political Joint Action Committee on Thursday, a grand success.

Mr Azad had said in Beijing on Tuesday that a decision on the formation of Telangana state cannot move ahead an `inch’ without the State Assembly passing a unanimous resolution. "If we have to do this we have to pass a unanimous resolution. Unless it is passed, we cannot move one inch," Mr Azad had said.
