Ascribing the YSR Congress Party’s ‘Sagu Poru’, an agitation to highlight the farmers’ issues, as an attempt to gain political mileage, the Telugu Desam Party on Monday advised MP-elect YS Jaganmohan Reddy to fight for farmers dispossessed when their lands were acquired for SEZs. Continuing the TDP’s attack, senior TDP leader P Chandrasekhar told media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan that YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy has no genuine concern for the farmers or their problems and he had announced the Sagu Poru with an eye on the Chief Minister’s chair. Mr Chandrasekhar said that the Kadapa MP-elect was shedding ‘crocodile tears’ on the farmers’ problems and he has no genuine concern for their welfare. “If Mr Jaganmohan Reddy has genuine commitment towards the farmers’ woes, he should launch a fight to reclaim the lands which were acquired ‘forcibly’ by the government in the name of establishing the Special Economic Zones for industrialists,” the senior TDP leader advised. Blaming the former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for the rise in the farmers’ problems, Mr Chandrasekhar alleged that lakhs of acres of land were forcibly acquired and the farmers dispossessed from their lands during his tenure. “They were thrown out on the roads,” he said. The TDP leader said that Mr Jaganmohan Reddy should launch an agitation to ensure that the lands are returned to the farmers
