The YSR Congress Party on Thursday demanded that the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy seek a Vote of Confidence in the state Assembly instead of seeking the resignations of MLAs loyal to Kadapa MP-elect YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Talking to a private television channel, YSR Congress Party leader and former minister Konda Surekha challenged Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to prove his majority on the Floor of the House instead of seeking the resignations of his MLAs. “The Chief Minister must prove his majority by introducing a Confidence Motion,” Ms Surekha said, less than 24 hours after Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy dared the Legislators loyal to Mr Jaganmohan Reddy to resign from their posts. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, while speaking at the party workers’ meeting at Srikakulam, had said that the Congress knows ‘how to deal with them’ (Jagan loyalists). Reacting to the remarks, Ms Surekha alleged that the Chief Minister had made those remarks to assert his authority since he felt threatened due to the appointment of Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana as the Pradesh Congress Committee president. The staunch Jaganmohan Reddy loyalist further claimed that the smooth victory of Speaker Nadendla Manohar and Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka was made possible only with the support of the MLAs loyal to the YSR Congress Party. “Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy is seeking the resignations of pro-Jagan MLAs to show that he hold the upper hand and all the Congress leaders are subservient to him,” she stated. “For the election of Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, the Congress needed the support of Jagan loyalist MLAs,” she said.
