No Governor post for Rosaiah

Dismissing the talk that he would be named the Governor of a neighbouring state, former chief minister K Rosaiah on Tuesday said that the rumours were mere media speculation and the issue did not even figure in his meeting with All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of the meeting at Ms Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janpath in New Delhi, Mr Rosaiah clarified that Ms Sonia Gandhi had never promised him a Governor’s post in the past. “The talk about me being chosen as the Governor of a state is nothing but the creation of the media,” Mr Rosaiah stated.

However, he did not refer to the talk about him possibly replacing incumbent Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy as the Head of Government in Andhra Pradesh. He also said that he had met Ms Sonia Gandhi only to brief her about the latest political situation in the state. “I requested her to take the steps necessary for strengthening the party in the state,” said the former chief minister.

“Ms Sonia Gandhi has told me that she would revamp the Pradesh Congress Committee very soon,” Mr Rosaiah revealed. The former chief minister also revealed that he had discussed the strategy to be adopted over the conducting of local body elections during his meeting with the AICC chief.

Responding to questions on the separate Telangana statehood demand, Mr Rosaiah said that the Centre would convene an all-party meet soon to resolve the issue. He pointed out that the Centre was already studying the recommendations of Justice Srikrishna Committee on Telangana to find a solution to the issue.

“Whatever decision taken by the Centre, we will all respect it. In the federal set up we have to respect the decisions taken by the Centre,” he stated. He also refuted rumours that he had come to New Delhi to discuss the Anti Corruption Bureau case in connection with allotment of land in Ameerpet. “It is not possible to reveal the outcome of discussions with Ms Sonia Gandhi,” he stated.
