Political crisis after June if T tangle not solved: Dattatreya

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bandaru Dattatreya on Saturday stated that he foresees an impending political crisis in the state after June if the contentious separate Telangana statehood issue is not resolved by then.

Talking to media persons while participating in a programme here, the senior BJP leader predicted that the state would be gripped in a political crisis if the Centre does not make a clear announcement over the Telangana state formation soon.

Demanding that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre stick to the statement made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on December 9, 2009, Mr Dattatreya said that the issue must be addressed before it reaches critical proportions.

“Congress president Sonia Gandhi must make an announcement on Telangana soon. The Congress must introduce a Bill in Parliament on the separate Telangana statehood demand. The BJP will extend full support to the Telangana Bill and ensure its passage in Parliament,” Mr Dattatreya stated.

He also demanded that the Telugu Desam Party introduce and adopt a resolution on the contentious issue in its annual conclave, ‘Mahanadu’.

The senior BJP leader also demanded that the Centre set aside Rs 1,000 crore for lifting rain-affected and discoloured paddy and also fix the Minimum Support Price for the farmers’ produce.

“If the government fails to address the farmers’ issues, the BJP would picket all district Collectorates and intensify its protests,” Mr Dattatreya warned.
