Socially responsible police ready to deal with T agitations: DGP

Exhorting his officers to prioritize social responsibility, Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao on Saturday said that measures have been put in place to deal with the fresh wave of intensified separate Telangana statehood agitations.

Talking to media persons after launching a unique programme of `Citizens as Customers’ at Cyberabad Police Commissionarate, organized in association with GE Volunteers, the DGP stated that the programme was aimed to enhance the Cyberabad police skills in dealing with citizens.

Mr Aravinda Rao called upon the police to utilize the programme and enhance their skills in solving the cases. He asked the police to act in a responsible manner while accepting petitions and complaints from the citizens and behave with them in a disciplined manner.

When media persons present asked the DGP on the TRS call for intensified agitations for separate Telangana statehood, Mr Aravinda Rao stated that the Police Department has taken all measures to maintain law and order in the region by deploying additional forces.

The DGP however refused to comment on the demands of deletion of Clause 14 (F) before recruitments of Sub-Inspectors goes ahead in Telangana region.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao stated the Cyberabad Police has started the five-hour weekly training on citizen-centric communications and behavior. He said the training programme would cover over 400 police men and women by the end of this year.

“On an average, over 7,000 people walk into our police stations every day. Each interaction with citizens is an opportunity for us to make them feel secure and to generate trust in our capabilities. That is really the crux of our citizen centricity initiative,” Mr Tirumala Rao stated.

He thanked the GE for supporting the programme by extending its cooperation in organizing the event.

GE Volunteers leader Sanjeev Jain said “We have been involved with Cyberabad police since 2006 and are happy to strengthen our engagement with them with this weekly training. Customer centricity is at the core of what we do as a business. I am glad we have the opportunity to share some of our learning with the Cyberabad police and learn from their experiences for making a positive impact in the community.”

He said the weekly training programme includes verbal and non-verbal communication skills and tips, the importance of posture, body language and the art of questioning while creating an environment of trust.
