Senior Telugu Desam Party leader K Yerrannaidu on Thursday stated that the Centre and state government have totally failed in bailing out the farmers from their financial problems in the state.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of the politburo meeting at NTR Trust Bhavan, Mr Yerrannaidu said that the government has done nothing for the farmers’ welfare except giving false assurances.
He said the government was limited to writing letters to Union Ministers seeking financial assistance for the farmers and effectively washing their hands off the farmers’ problems.
Stating that the government has totally failed in releasing compensation for rain-hit farmers, Mr Yerrannaidu asked why the government why it has not implemented the MS Swaminathan Committee recommendations on farmers’ problems.
He warned that the TDP will intensify its agitation for the welfare of farmers and block National Highways on May 19 across the state demanding addressing of their problems.
Alleging that the Congress was only directing its energies on saving its government and has neglected to fix the Minimum Support Price for the paddy, Mr Yerrannaidu said that the farmers are losing their produce to middlemen and millers.
The senior leader also revealed that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu will tour Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts from May 13 to 15 to take stock of the farmers problems.
