Waiting for ECI clearance for merger

Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi on Wednesday stated that the merger process of party with Congress will mostly likely be completed within two weeks, and he is waiting for the approval of the Election Commission of India.

As some members in the PRP raised objection, the merger process was delayed, he stated.

Once the Election Commission gives its nod, the date, place and the public meeting for the merger will be announced officially, the PRP chief stated.

He said Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar will respond to Election Commission on the petitions filed by a few leaders opposing the merger of the two parties.

Mr Chiranjeevi stated that he has invited Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad and other CWC members to attend the public meeting at which the merger will be formalized.

Reacting on reports that the Congress will be offering him a Union Cabinet post, the PRP chief said that particular issue did not figure in the meetings.

“I will make complete efforts for strengthening the Congress party. The Party is free to utilize my services wherever necessary. Whether the party gives me a post or not, I am not bothered,” he stated.

Mr Chiranjeevi was accompanied by senior party leader C Ramachandraiah during his series of meetings.
