The First Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Vijayawada, on Monday ordered the Satyanarayanapuram police to register a case against Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao for trying to create a wedge between Brahmins of Telangana and Seemandhra regions. The Court ordered that KCR should be booked Indian Penal Code Sections 153, 153(A), 153(B), 500 and 506.
The Court issued these directions following a complaint filed by a local priest Govindarajula Srinivas. Mr Srinivas had pointed out to the Court that KCR’s remark that Seemandhra Brahmins were more interested in public display and rituals. This is an insult to the community, the petitioner argued. KCR’s comments had also had an adverse effect on the livelihood of the Brahmins from Seemandhra region. The Court directed the police to verify the reported statements made by KCR and submit a comprehensive report.
KCR was reported to have made the controversial remarks while performing Chandi Yagam to seek divine blessings for early realization of Telangana dream on April 16. The TRS chief was reported to have said that the Brahmins from Telangana are more committed and disciplined to their profession than their Coastal Andhra counterparts. The Brahmins from Coastal Andhra have dubbed the remarks as divisive and derogatory.
