Raja, Kalmadi's arrests proof of Congress integrity: Ponguleti

All India Congress Committee secretary Ponguleti Sudhakar on Tuesday stated the arrest of Suresh Kalmadi for his alleged involvement in the Commonwealth Games scam and former Telecom minister A Raja for his alleged role in the 2G Spectrum scam has proved that the Congress is committed to eradicate corruption.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party Office, the AICC secretary reiterated that the United Progressive Alliance government ordered a probe into irregularities into allocation of the 2G Spectrum and organizing the Commonwealth Games as the Congress was keen to come clean on the scams. “This shows its commitment to root out corruption from the country,” Mr Sudhakar stated.

The AICC secretary condemned the charges made by the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party that the Congress has failed to take any action against corruption. He pointed out that not only has the BJP failed to take any action against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi but has instead projected him as a hero even though he was involved in the 2002 riots.

“What action has the BJP taken against Modi or for that matter Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa who is involved in a land scam,” Mr Sudhakar questioned.

Terming the BJP as ‘Bharat Ka Jhoota Party’, the AICC secretary demanded that the party’s leaders Narendra Modi and Yeddyurappa should be removed from their posts in their respective states first before the party makes any allegations against the Congress.

Mr Sudhakar continued, “The BJP should first set its own house in order before it begins to target the Congress on corruption.”

The senior leader expressed confidence that Congress candidates will win in the by-elections for Kadapa Parliamentary and Pulivendula Assembly seats.

Earlier, Mr Sudhakar met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and appealed him to rename Anantapur district as the Satya Sai Baba Anantapur district as a tribute to seer who passed away on Sunday.

Mr Sudhakar told media persons that the Chief Minister has assured that he would study the demand and also speak to the district in-charge Ministers.
