Probe basis behind incorrect Report, Panel members: Ponnam

Reacting sharply to the media reports that the Justice BN Srikrishna Committee in its report had said that the Telangana region would become an epicenter of Maoist activities if the state was bifurcated, Karimnagar Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Thursday demanded to know on what basis were such conclusions arrived at by the Panel.

Talking to media persons here, the MP from Telangana demanded that the Centre should order a probe against the Panel Members for submitted a Report full of lapses. The probe should also reveal the basis behind the recommendations of the Committee, Mr Prabhakar demanded.

The Karimnagar MP also demanded that the Centre immediately obey the orders of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and make public the eighth chapter of the Srikirshna report.  Mr Prabhakar said that the opinion expressed by the Panel in its eighth chapter which stated that any new Telangana state would be rocked by communal violence and infested with Maoists was just an attempt to throw water on the separate statehood agitation and cool it down.

He said that the Committee was opposed to the division of Andhra Pradesh and this was reflected in the secret note or the eighth chapter.

Mr Prabhakar said that the view of the Panel that the new Telangana state would be rocked by communal violence or infested with Naxals was not correct. He added that there will be no Naxalism and no communal tensions and the region would witness tremendous growth and compete with developed states on all fronts.

The MP also added that the Justice Srikrishna has lost respect after chairing a Committee which submitted a wrong Report.

“The Telangana people do not believe Justice Srikrishna and his recommendations as it widen rift between Seemandhra and Telangana regions,” he pointed out.

If the Centre has any commitment on Telangana, it should stand by to the announcement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram made on December 9, 2009 and immediately introduce Telangana Bill in Parliament, Mr Prabhakar stated.
