Telugu Desam Party Floor Leader in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Singireddy Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday requested Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to waive off the penalties imposed on the citizens for late payment of property taxes and various licence fees. Mr Singireddy, in a letter to the Chief Minister, pointed out that there was virtually no way that the citizens could pay their taxes on time since the entire administration was paralysed in Telangana region due to the 16-day noncooperation agitation. He added that the local bodies had not made any alternative arrangements to receive the property taxes while the staff was boycotting work as part of the separate Telangana statehood agitation. The TDP leader pointed out that the Ministry of Municipal Administration and Urban Development has nonetheless imposed penalties for paying the property taxes late. Urging Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to keep the fact in mind that the citizens were unable and not unwilling to pay taxes, Mr Singireddy appealed that the government waive off the penalties for the year 2010-2011.
