Congress MLAs and MLCs loyal to former MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday undertook a padayatra from Indira Park to Assembly in support of his fast on the fee reimbursement arrears issue which entered its sixth day today.
Talking to media persons at Assembly, MLA Konda Surekha said “We have undertaken the 'padayatra' in protest against the government's indifferent attitude to look into the demand for release of funds for the tuition fees reimbursement and its total disregarding of Mr Jaganmohan Reddy's fast.”
The Jagan supporters found fault with the state government for not holding talks or sending a representative to meet the former Kadapa MP though his week-long fast entered the sixth day and his health was deteriorating. He needs medical attention, the protestors said.
“The government deputed Ministers or other representatives when Opposition leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and state BJP president G Kishen Reddy went on hunger strikes but it had ‘totally’ neglected the fast undertaken by Mr Jaganmohan Reddy. This is ample evidence of the deep hostility the government has towards Mr Jaganmohan Reddy,” the Kadapa leader’s loyalists alleged.
MLC Jupudi Prabhakar criticized the government’s irresponsible attitude in not sending representatives on behalf of state government considering the deteriorating health of Jagan.
The MLAs, loyal to Mr Jaganmohan Reddy, have been expressing their protest in the Assembly on the fee reimbursement issue for the last few days by holding placards. About 21 MLAs and two MLCs, loyal to the former MP, have been calling on him during the last six days of his fast.
Meanwhile, policemen requested Mr Jaganmohan Reddy to call off his fast and take medical treatment as per doctors’ advice but he declined to do so.
