Rajya sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Saturrday demanded that the state government order a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into alleged dubious land dealings between Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and Emaar Properties.
Talking to media persons at his residence in Amberpet, the senior Congress leader said the CBI inquiry is very much the need of the hour as a lot of corruption charges have been raised against many leaders which is spoiling the image of Congress party in the country.
Mr Hanumantha Rao said the party and leaders should come clean on the corruption allegations to clarify the doubts which have cropped up among the people. He urged the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to take steps in this regard.
The Rajya Sabha Member said that he would take this issue to High Command seeking a CBI probe as it has led to the State Exchequer losing thousands of crores of rupees.
When pointed out that that BJP leaders were demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the 2G spectrum scam, he said that the government was making sincere efforts to get to the bottom of the matter and has already arrested former Union Telecommunications Minister A Raja and the Telecom Secretary. This will go a long way to unearth the truth, he stated.
Mr Hanumantha Rao further added that the Centre also replaced former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chauhan after allegations were raised against him that he was involved in the Adarsh Housing scam.
He asked the BJP to replace Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa for showing favouritism in sanctioning land to his family members. The senior leader stated that the BJP has no moral right to comment on corruption charges.
“Before making allegations against the Congress, it should act on corruption against Yeddyurappa,” the Rajya Sabha Member demanded.
Reacting on allegations that Congress intentionally sanctioned IT raids on TDP MP Nama Nageswara Rao, he rubbished the statements and said that department conducts raids against anyone who evades paying taxes.
