Jagan making efforts to rejoin Congress: VH

Rajya Sabha Member and senior Telangana Congress leader V Hanumanth Rao on Thursday claimed that former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who quit the Congress party in a hasty manner, was now making efforts to rejoin the parent organisation.

Talking to media persons, faced with the prospect of action by the High Court after it issued notices against Mr Jaganmohan Reddy and his followers on their amassing huge wealth, and his image getting a ‘beating’, the former MP was looking to rejoin the party, Mr Hanumantha Rao claimed.

He said that the Kadapa leader had sent mediators who are in touch with the party higher-ups to pave way for his rejoining the Congress party. The Rajya Sabha MP also said that Mr Jaganmohan Reddy had realised his ‘folly’ in leaving the party.

In a separate press conference, Mr Hanumantha Rao had stated that the Congress government in the state was not dependent on the mercy of any other party for its survival as it had the requisite numbers in the Assembly.

Talking to media persons on the Assembly premises, the MP expressed confidence that the state government would not collapse as long as Congress president Sonia Gandhi leadership continues.

“I see no threat to government led by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. The government will continue till 2014,” he asserted.

Mr Hanumantha Rao also stated that the Congress government in the state retained power due to the leadership of Ms Sonia Gandhi, with the public voting for her policies and schemes.

He rubbished the statements made by a section of leaders that Congress government came to power second time in the state only due to efforts of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. “I have great respect towards the late YSR. But I will not agree to the statements that the Congress managed to retain power only due to his efforts,” Mr Hanumantha Rao stated.

Reacting on the media reports of the High Court issuing notices to former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy and his supporters for amassing of wealth illegally, the Rajya Sabhja Member said the case is now before the Court. The High Court would initiate action against Mr Jaganmohan Reddy, he stated.

“The law will take its own course of action. There is no need to comment on the notices,” Mr Hanumantha Rao stated.

The senior leader also predicted that Mr Jaganmohan Reddy might seek the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party to try and come to power.
