Jagan begins process of registering party with EC

Rumours which had long been floating in political and media circles that former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy had registered the name of his party long before he quit from the Congress were dispelled on Tuesday after a close relative of the Kadapa leader approached the Central Election Commission and applied for registration of the new party.

YS Subba Reddy, a co-brother of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, considered very close to Mr Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday filed an application for registration of the Kadapa leader’s yet-to-be-launched political party. According to sources, the process will take about three weeks, much before the by-elections to the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies are announced.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of the EC’s office, Mr Subba Reddy said that the name of the party will be disclosed to the public by Mr Jaganmohan Reddy. He however hinted that the party name will carry the name of the late YSR.

Media had long been speculating that Mr Jaganmohan Reddy had already registered a political party soon after the Congress High Command had raised objection to his taking out the Odarpu Yatra.

Mr Jaganmohan Reddy had only recently also clarified that he does not intend to enter the Andhra Pradesh state Assembly but is keen to contest again from the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat. He had also reiterated his words in his five-page resignation letter written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in which he had said that he would not destabilise the state government till 2014.
