SKC Report: govt plea to media for restrain

The state government on Thursday appealed to media persons to exercise caution while projecting the news related to Srikrishna Committee report, which was submitted earlier in the day to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Minister for Information and Public Relations D K Aruna told the newsmen present at the state Secretariat that that there was a misconception that something was going to happen after the report was submitted.

Ms Aruna also made it clear that electronic media in particular must take steps not to project any provocative scenes that might instigate the innocent.

The media had the responsibility to cooperate with the government agencies in enforcing peace, she said.

"Let us all unitedly face the situation," she added.

Earlier, the Congress High Command had imposed a gag order on all party members not to make statements regarding the Report.

The News Broadcasters Association (NBA) had on Monday issued an advisory for all its members, asking the editors to be particularly ‘sensitive’ while covering the events during and after the submission of the Srikrishna Committee Report on the Telangana statehood issue on December 31.
