The Srikrishna Committee on Thursday submitted its long awaited Report on the situation in Andhra Pradesh to the Centre, a day before the deadline of December 31, 2010. The contents of the Report will be briefed by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on January 6, 2011.
Talking to media persons after receiving the Srikrishna Commission Report, Mr Chidambaram stated the contents of report would be disclosed to media after holding consultations with all concerned parties.
He asked the media and political parties to observe restraint and calm and help the government to maintain law and order in the state without resorting to violence. The Union Home Minister also appealed to all parties concerned to respect the Commission’s Report.
Mr Chidambaram also urged the media not to carry any baseless stories on Telangana issue and thus help in the maintenance of law and order.
According to sources, the Union Home Minister will hold all-party meeting on January 6 to discuss the contents in the report, before the contents are disclosed to the public. Eight political parties are expected to be present at this crucial meeting. After it is disclosed to the public, the Report will be also put online.
The Union Home Minister also promised that Central Paramilitary Forces deployed in the state were not misused at any cost.
Mr Chidambaram thanked Justice B N Srikrishna and the other Members of the Commission for submitting the report as per schedule.
Earlier, Justice B N Srikrishna Commission along with the Commission Members had called on the Union Home Minister at his office and submitted the 600-page Report. The Report is believed to consist of two volumes with eight chapters.
They had, before submitting the Report, met for over two hours at the Vigyan Bhavan.
The members had earlier said that the Report will give several options with pros and cons to the contentious statehood demand and would give highest satisfaction to largest number of people.
Justice Srikrishna had expressed hope that the report will bring out a permanent solution to the contentious issue of demands for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. He had hoped that all political parties in the state will accept the report and maintain peace and harmony.
According to sources, the Union Cabinet would meet on Thursday evening to review the situation in the state after the submission of the Justice Srikrishna Commission report.
Earlier, the Congress High Command issued a Whip to all its members in the state not to speak on Srikrishna commission report. It directed the party In-Charge for Andhra Pradesh Affairs M Veerappa Moily to strictly impose a gag order on all its members.
