A former MLA from Vijayawada city, Jaleel Khan on Thursday said that most of the Muslims in the state are supporters of former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
Talking to media persons, the former MLA said that the Muslim community has confidence in Mr Jaganmohan Reddy as he would also look after their welfare if he comes to power.
Reminding that former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s schemes had benefitted the Muslim community, Mr Jaleel Khan recalled that two major schemes -- four per cent reservation in seats in all educational institutions and fee reimbursement for poor students introduced by him has benefited a lot of students from the economically backward sections in the community.
The state government, during YSR reign had constructed Shadi Khanas at places where the Muslim population is more for performing mass marriage functions, he added.
He said the Muslim community has come close to Dr Rajasekhara Reddy due to pro-welfare schemes and has now turned its emotional attachment towards his son YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
