Senior Congress leaders on Wednesday took on themselves to target former Kadapa MP ys Jaganmohan Reddy by asking him how he has managed to amass so much wealth in such a short time, a day after he announced his plans to float his own political party. The first to raise questions about Mr Jaganmohan Reddy’s wealth was Rajya Sabha Member V Hanumantha Rao who said that the former MP owed an explanation to people as doubts were being raised over his alleged involvement in various scams during the stint of his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy as Chief Minister.
“Mr Jaganmohan Reddy should tell people his income before 2004 and how much wealth he has made after his father became chief minister?" the Rajya Sabha MP said. He also referred to the Rs 84 crore as advance tax.
The senior leader pointed out that industrialists like Mukesh and Anil Ambani have taken years to reach this position. He said that to allay people’s suspicions, Mr Jaganmohan Reddy should explain the secret behind his economic prosperity. Meanwhile, Mr Hanumantha Rao’s words were echoed by Congress spokesperson Tulasi Reddy.
Launching an indirect attack, Mr Tulasi Reddy said that "people are talking about Mr Jaganmohan Reddy’s assets. There are rumours that he owns a palace in Bangalore and another in Pulivendula and a palatial house here in Hyderabad.” Mr Tulasi Reddy also said that the question about Mr Jaganmohan Reddy’s wealth were not raised till the time he was in the party.
