The state has suffered damage to the tune of Rs 5,222.44 crore following the rains that lashed from June to September this year, stated Disaster Management Commissioner T Radha on Thursday.
Talking to media persons, Mr Radha revealed that the state had sought financial assistance of Rs 1154.16 crore to take up relief and rescue operation in the flood affected districts.
The Disaster Management Commissioner stated that crops worth thousands of crores of rupees, besides properties were damaged in the incessant rains which have lashed Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema districts.
Apart from the financial losses, 35 persons were killed in floods. Thousands of domestic animals were also washed away in floods, Mr Radha said.
The maximum number of deaths reported due to rains is from East Godavari district, which claimed 14 lives, followed by Visakhapatnam with 11, Prakasam-3, Nellore, West Godavari and Anantapur 2 in each and one from Chitoor district, he added.
