CBI probe into YSR's copter crash

Hyderabad, Sept 7 :

 The Andhra Pradesh Government on Monday took a decision to hand over the probe into the chopper crash that killed the Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and four others in Nallamalla forests in Kurnool district on last Wednesday to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Talking to media persons here, Minister for Home Smt Savita Indra Reddy stated that the Chief Minister, K Rosaiah, spoke to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to make a request for CBI inquiry and the later accepted it immediately.

Ther Home Minister also stated that the state government has set up a two-member expert committee to investigate the chopper crash.

She said the two member committee will consists of M R Reddy, a former IPS officer and an expert on VIP security and H S Khola, former Director General of Civil Aviation and probe  into the circumstances that led to the mishap.

Reddy's Bell 430 chopper went missing on September 2 morning and could only be located the following day after a night long search operation by different units of security personnel, including Army commandos, IAF's Sukhoi-30, and 5,000 CRPF personnel. The chopper's wreckage was found atop a hill about 40 nautical miles from Kurnoool town.

Along with YSR, four others -- Dr P Subramanium, the Special Secretary to the Chief Minister; ASC Wesley, Chief Security Officer and two pilots Group Captain SK Bhatia and Captain MS Reddy -- died in the crash.
