Mareppa flays RGV for depicting Seema in poor light

Former minister Mareppa on Friday condemned the depiction of Rayalaseema region in poor light in the film 'Raktha Charithra', which was released earlier in the day.

Talking to media persons in Secretariat premises, Mr Mareppa pointed out that there were many objectionable scenes in the film.

Stating that the region was well known for having produced veterans like former chief ministers Kota Vijayabhaskar Reddy, YS Rajasekhara Reddy and others, he said that it was not reasonable to brand a particular and specific character in a villainous role.

The former minister stated that this was against all norms of culture and etiquettes and appealed to film director Ram Gopal Verma to desist from directing such films highlighting violence coupled with bloodshed.

Instead, Mr mareppa said, a good message or theme keeping the future in view should be portrayed on the silver screen.

Asked why the film was cleared by the censor board, the former minister replied that it would edit only vulgarity or gory scenes. Asked whether he was in favour of banning the film, Mr Mareppa refused to reply.
