The Andhra Pradesh government has been awarded a certificate of global recognition by the World Records Union (WRU) for holding a record-breaking 13,326 grama sabhas simultaneously on August 23, 2024. This unprecedented event, held within 100 days of the NDA alliance government taking charge, witnessed widespread participation from farmers and villagers across the state.
Christopher Tailor Kraft, WRU's official records manager, presented the certificate and a medal to Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan at his residence in Hyderabad on Monday. The grama sabhas, held in all 13,326 panchayats, approved works worth a staggering Rs 4,500 crore. These projects include the construction of CC roads, drains, cattle sheds, desilting of canals, building check dams, and horticulture projects.
The event aimed to empower self-governance at the panchayat level and transform villages into "Swarna Panchayats." Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu participated in the grama sabha at Vanapalli, while Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, holding the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development portfolios, attended the sabha at Mysuravaripalli village. Legislators, collectors, farmers, villagers, and officials actively participated in the event.
The Rs 4,500 crore worth of projects approved under the NREGA scheme are expected to generate employment for nine crore people, benefiting 54 lakh families. Panchayat raj principal secretary Shashi Bhushan Kumar, department director Krishna Teja, NREGA director Shanmukh, and NREGA joint commissioner Siva Prasad were present during the award ceremony.
This achievement is a testament to the Andhra Pradesh government's commitment to promoting participatory democracy and empowering rural communities.
