Babu demands white paper on MFIs activities, blames govt for suicides

Demanding action against those micro-finance institutes, which are resorting to Goondaism in the name of recollection of loans from women and rural folk, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday sought the government to release a white paper on the entire issue.

Talking to media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan, the Opposition leader blamed the state government for its failure in releasing funds properly for the Self Help Groups, which forced them to seek loans from MFIs at exorbitant interest rates.

As the government has totally failed in implementing the welfare schemes and programmes (DWCRA) launched for the benefit of poor and middle class people, they are approaching MFIs, falling in their trap and ending lives miserably, Mr Naidu charged.

Reacting to AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s statement on praising the state government for uplifting the lives of people through micro finance firms and in revolutionizing the rural areas, the TDP chief demanded an explanation over the suicides of women and rural folk unable repay loans taken from MFIs from the young Congress leader.

Reacting to reports of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy paying Rs 84 crore as advanced tax to the government, Mr Naidu demanded probe into his entire properties.

He alleged that the YSR family members had resorted to looting of public properties since YSR assumed charge. The family members made public properties as private and looted them miserably. The corruption was rampant during YSR tenure, the former chief minister alleged.

He demanded that Chief Minister K Rosaiah drop corrupt Ministers from his Cabinet and initiate action against them immediately.

Recalling the political crisis in neighbouring Karnataka state, Mr Naidu said the BJP has stooped to such level in Karnataka as corruption was rampant in electing members.
