Kavitha to languish in jail for somemore time

Court denies interim bail to Kavitha

Court denies interim bail to Kavitha. The interim bail plea filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha in the money laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy was dismissed by the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Monday.

K Kavitha's regular bail application is currently awaiting the court's attention and is slated for arguments on April 20. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) apprehended Kavitha from her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad on March 15 in connection with the money laundering case.

As the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Kavitha stands accused of being a pivotal figure in the "South Group," purportedly involved in disbursing kickbacks of ₹100 crore to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi in exchange for a significant portion of liquor licenses in the national capital. She was remanded to 14-day judicial custody last Tuesday.

This recent setback for K Kavitha follows her appeal to a Delhi court two days ago, urging it to revoke its decision allowing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate her in Tihar jail, as part of its investigation into the corruption allegations surrounding the excise policy.

During the proceedings, Kavitha's advocate Nitesh Rana argued that the CBI's move to seek permission for interrogation without her knowledge impeded the due process of law. Rana expressed concerns that the CBI might have misrepresented facts to obtain a favorable court order.

In response, the court deferred the matter for further consideration on April 10, granting time to the CBI to respond to Kavitha's plea. However, Special Judge for ED and CBI cases, Kaveri Baweja, declined to grant interim relief to K Kavitha.

Subsequently, Rana emphasized the importance of judicial discipline, urging the probe agency to abstain from executing the order until the court's decision on Kavitha's plea.
