United Andhra Pradesh Congress MLCs and MLAs Forum leaders on Monday objected to the ‘arbitrary’ decision by the three-member Sub-Committee on the 42 per cent quota for Telanganaites in Judiciary posts.
Government Whip S Sailajanath told media persons that the Forum had earlier in the day submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister K Rosaiah voicing its objections.
Mr Sailajanath described the decision as ‘arbitrary’ and said that it was taken without eliciting views from lawyers, people’s representatives and other welfare organizations from the other two regions of the state.
Mr Sailajanath expressed his regret that the decision to give in to the demands of the protesting Telangana lawyers was taken even after petitions submitted to Cabinet Sub-Committee on September 17, 2010 on behalf of MLC’s and MLA’s Forum, to offer a chance to for lawyers, people representatives and other people welfare organizations to give their views on the issue. He said that this request was disregarded.
The Government Whip said that the preferential treatment accorded to Telangana leaders MP’s Madhu Yaskhi Goud and G Vivek while leaders of the non-Telangana region were neglected during the meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee. This was an insult to the non-Telangana leaders, he added.
The Forum also urged the Chief Minister to call a meeting of lawyers, people’s representatives and welfare organizations from all the three regions and elicit views from them before implementing the assurances given to the Telangana lawyers on September 17.
The Forum also urged Mr Rosaiah to take an early decision on the Forum’s request as this may avert many problems in future.
The Government Whip revealed that the Forum also requested Mr Rosaiah to provide proper security for pro-United Andhra Pradesh leaders.
The Forum members also thanked the Chief Minister for taking a decision to provide reservations for SC’s, ST’s and BC’s (Minority) and Woman’s according to Constitutional Provision’s without any amendment.
