The government has downgraded the security detail for former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, shifting from Z+ to Y category security, which now includes an escort vehicle and 4+4 Personal Security Officers (PSOs). Notably, during his tenure as Chief Minister, KCR enjoyed Z+ category security. In his current role as the Leader of the Opposition, KCR has been assigned Cabinet rank security.
As part of this adjustment, a sentry post has been designated for KCR's residence at Nandinagar, Banjara Hills in Hyderabad. This decision, prompted by a thorough review conducted by the Intelligence department, reflects a strategic reassessment of security protocols for the prominent political figure.
In addition to the changes in KCR's security, a significant measure has been taken to withdraw security coverage for former ministers and MLAs who faced defeat in the recent Assembly polls. The Intelligence department has further allocated 2+2 PSOs to former ministers who were re-elected to the Assembly but chose to forgo their escort and pilot vehicles.
The move to reduce KCR's security detail has sparked discussions, with some expressing concerns that the heightened targeting by political figures, such as Revanth Reddy, may be fueled by overenthusiasm, especially evident upon his recent discharge from the hospital.
