Govt likely to move SC over HC's ruling on fee reimbursements

Social Welfare Minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose on Friday stated that the government would move the Supreme Court if necessary over the payment of tuition fees to students during the admissions.

Mr Bose was speaking to media persons after emerging out of a Cabinet sub-committee meeting after the state High Court directed the state government to deposit the scholarships amounts for SC, ST and BC students to educational institutes at the time of admissions.

The Minister said that the government would appoint a committee comprising of the Chief secretary, Law secretary and Advocate General to look into the aspects of the High Court’s decision. He clarified that a copy of the High Court’s order on the issue has not yet reached the government.

Mr Bose said that the proposed committee would study the Court ruling and if needed, the state government would approach the Supreme Court to find a solution to the issue.

He further revealed that the Cabinet sub-committee would meet once again on September 7 to discuss the issue.

The Social Welfare Minister said that the government would recover the Rs 90 lakh from college managements which had tried to take advantage of the loopholes in the fee reimbursement delivery process by opening accounts in the name of 80,000 fictitious students.
