AICC general secretary and in charge of AP affairs M Veerappa Moily on Thursday visited Idupulapaya on behalf of All India Congress Committee to pay homage to former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy on the occasion of his first death anniversary.
After paying floral tributes to the former leader at YSR Ghat, Mr Moily met YSR’s family members, his widow and Pulivendula MLA Y Vijayalakshmi, son and Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy and daughter Sharmila. They had a closed door meeting for a few minutes.
The closed door meeting assumes importance as the High Command had asked Jaganmohan Reddy to call off his Odarpu yatra in Prakasam district, which is scheduled to begin on Friday.
According to sources, Mr Moily passed on the High Command’s clear message regarding the Odarpu Yatra to Mr Jaganmohan Reddy.
It may be mentioned here that the High Command had announced a financial package of Rs one lakh for the families of those who died of shock following the news of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s sudden death. It also took up the responsibility of consoling the families of YSR victims.
However, when asked to comment over the Odarpu yatra in Prakasam district, the Union Law Minister said “There is nothing to comment on it now from my side. I came here following the directions of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and to pay rich tributes to the great leader.”
