The South Central Railway on Thursday denied reports which had surfaced in a section of the media that the Union government is having a rethink on the name of the ladies special MMTS service.
According to the South Central Railways, the Falaknuma-Lingampalli MMTS train was among the 21 ‘Matribhoomi Trains’ ladies specials introduced by Union Railways Minister Mamata Bannerjee during her Railway Budget for the financial year 2010-11.
The Karmabhoomi Trains, Janmabhoomi Trains and Bharath Tirth Trains were the other trains. Ms Bannerjee had told Parliament that the trains were part of salutations of mothers.
She said, “mothers nurture the future generations of the country and we take pride that they have now stepped out of their houses to make contributions as a workforce in the country. In order to improve their travel on rail, I have introduced 21 ladies specials on the railway network in major cities.”
Ms Bannerjee had categorically stated that these trains would be named Matribhoomi specials.
The SCR said that the Matribhoomi Trains are unique all-India type of train services like ‘Rajdhani’, ‘Sampark Kranti’, ‘Garibrath’, ‘Duronto’, etc and cannot be modified locally.
