Adah Sharma on Kerala Story backlash. The Kerala Story starring Adah Sharma and directed by Sudipto Sen created a huge controversy as it is a hard hitting one on the missing Hindu girls from the state of Kerala and how they were forcibly converted and used as s3x slaves by the ISIS terrorists.
Many celebrities like Kamal Haasan and Naseeruddin Shah blasted the makers for coming up with a film branding it as a propaganda against Muslims. In the midst of all this, Adah Sharma speaking to scribes had this to tell them. She said “I rejoiced at the freedom of speech we have in our country, where without even watching a film, it can be discredited, labelled and publicly be ripped apart. Anyone can say anything about anybody and can continue to live unharmed; that's the beauty of Bharat. I love my country! People with different ideologies can co-exist.”
She continued “It's wonderful that even after such famous actors made their stance about what they thought of the film clear, the audiences still chose to go to theatres to support a film that stood against terrorism.”Earlier Kamal Haasan said "I told you, I am against propaganda films. It is not enough if you write 'true story' at the bottom as the logo. It has to be really true. And that is not true."
Naseeruddin added “Worthwhile films like Bheed, Afwaah, Faraaz, all three collapsed. Nobody went to see them, but they are flocking to see The Kerala Story which I have not seen, and I don’t intend to see because I have read enough about it.” and he continued “On one hand, it is a dangerous trend, no doubt. We seem to be heading the way of Nazi Germany where in Hitler’s time, the filmmakers were co-opted, attempted to be co-opted, by the supreme leader to make films praising him and what he has done for the countrymen, and running down the Jewish community. So many master filmmakers in Germany left the place, came to Hollywood, and made movies there. Same thing seems to be happening here. Either stay on the right side, be neutral or pro-establishment.”
