Controversial film The Kerala Story which was released amidst wide discussions and allegations has become a boxoffice hit. The film was released in theatres on 5th May. The film talks about women converts joining extremist organisations in Kerala. The film opened at the box-office with a bang. Though it gets mixed reviews the controversies surrounding the film helped in drawing the audience in big numbers. The film completed its first week run and draws big collection numbers.
The film too managed to impress the audience with hard-hitting plot and also no competition from new releases also helped the film at the boxoffice. The Kerala Story has crossed Rs 80 Crores at the end of its first week. The film is expected to cross Rs 100 crores by its second weekend.
But, The Kerala Story which is compared to The Kashmir Files in terms of surrounding themselves with controversy lags behind the later film. Though The Kerala Story leads The Kashmir Files in its first weekend it falls behind by the completion of its first week. The Kashmir Files mad Rs 97 Crores in its first week and ended up collecting Rs 252 crores in its full run. It seems The Kerala Story won't go such far.
The Kerala Story is releasing in Telugu and other regional languages on 13th May. It is also releasing in 37 other countries on 12th May. The film has been banned in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. While Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand gave tax-free status to the film. The film will make its OTT debut through ZEE5 in June 2nd week. Sudipto Sen directed this Adah Sharma starrer in Vipul Amritlal Shah's production.
