Baba which was released in 2002 had a humongous craze from its announcement. It was the next film of Rajinikanth after all time Blockbuster Padaiyappa / Narasimha. The story was Provided by Rajinikanth himself and he also acted as one of the producers. Suresh Krissna who earlier directed path-breaking Baasha with Rajinikanth is the director. AR Rahman is the music director.

Manisha Koirala was one of the busiest actress at that time. She had hits like Bharateeyudu, Bombay, and Oke Okkadu. She was taken as heroine for Baba. In her latest interview with a youtube channel.Manish made some sensational comments. She said her career in the southern film industry ended after doing Rajinikanth's Baba. The movie was touted as a supernatural action thriller that saw Manisha playing the female lead.

Manisha said, “Baba was probably my last big Tamil film. It flopped so badly in those days. It was such a huge disaster. Lot of expectations were on the film." Manisha also stated that before appearing in Baba, she was doing multiple south projects, but after the box office disaster of Baba, she got fewer and fewer offers.

Baba was a pivotal film for Rajinikanth, and despite its initial disaster at the ticket counter, he is said to be quite fond of the feature.
