It is going to be one year in a week since RRR has been released. But, still the film is running in theatres somewhere in the world though it is avilable for streaming on Netflix. RRR has been released in Japan in October last year. Entire team went to Japan and promoted the film. It registered record opening as the highest Indian film in its first week. Many predicted that the film will go a long way as Japan is a long run market.
RRR has achieved another significant milestone in Japan by crossing the $10 million mark. This is the twenty-first week of the film's run in Japan marked its biggest week yet, with JPY 125 million, representing a 60% growth from the previous week. This surge in revenue is due to the film gaining an Oscar for its best original song win at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony held last Sunday.
RRR is already the highest grossing Indian film with huge margin. As of last night, the epic Magnum Opus starring Ram Charan and NTR has grossed JPY 1358 million ($10.15 million) in Japan. Consequently, the movie's worldwide total now stands at a staggering Rs. 1199 crores and is expected to cross Rs. 1200 crores today.
Last week, the SS Rajamouli directed action spectacle has surpassed KGF Chapter 2 to become the third highest grossing Indian film. The film is having a strong run and it is difficult to predict where the film's collections will end up, especially considering Japan's tendency to produce such prolonged runs.
