Ever since the pandemic started in 2020, Tollywood has witnessed suffering with shutdown of theatres, audience are getting used to watching movies, TV shows on OTT resulted in decrease in theatre occupancy. But this year, with big budgeted films with star heroes succeeded in drawing the audiences to theatres. Especially RRR and KGF Chapter 2 registered record collections. Theatres playing these films witnessed huge turnout of audience. But, then again stagnation hit the film industry with a dull period at the box-office. Many thought that only star heroes films and big event films are attracting the audience to theatres.
But, Bimbisara and Sitaramam have demonstrated that if a good film is made, the audience will come to the theatres for sure. These films followed by Karthikeya 2 and Dhamaka, both produced by People Media Factory, were released in 2022 and grossed more than 100 crores. Nikhil's epic blockbuster Karthikeya 2 grossed over 127 crores and was extremely popular across the country. Dhamaka, starring Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja, grossed over 100 crores in its first 12 days of release, setting a record as the first hundred crore film in Ravi Teja's career. The film is still continuing raking good numbers and it will be Raviteja's career biggest blockbuster.
