Star director Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan might not have got a good response in other languages but it endeared to all in Kollywood. The film which has an ensemble cast of Vikram,Aishwarya Rai,Jayam Ravi,Karthi,Trisha,Aishwaya Lekshmi, Shobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu,Sarathkumar,Vikram Prabhu,Jayaram,Prakash Raj,Rahman,Parthiban entered into a rare club.
The film entered into Rs 500 crores club and thus created a rare record. The film took 50 days to enter into Rs 500crs club and the makers claimed that the film became the highest-grossing Tamil film after Super Star Rajinikanth's 2.0. It is a great achievement for the film as it was released after the covid pandemic.
The film's second part will be released in the summer 2023. The film is based on Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan written by Kalki Krishnamurthy in 1950s. Rahman scored music for the film and highlighted the glory of Chola Kings.
