'Begging' Phase begins in Tollywood!

At last the Tollywood has pressed the panic button. With increasing budgets for movies and increasing failures at Box Office, Producers are turning into Beggars with just a single movie. Who is responsible for this so called ‘Begging’ phase in Tollywood?

Two main culprits for bringing the industry to reach lowest of its standards are STAR HEROES and STAR PRODUCERS. It is a known fact that, Tollywood movie has a maximum potential of collecting Rs.40 to 50 crores for a star movie if everything goes right and once in a decade it might go up to Rs.60 to 80 crores with movies like ‘Magadheera’ which can’t happen again and again.

But, why are producers spending budgets more than Rs.30 crores on many of star movies? Many seniors in industry say that, it is the lacking of business logic and common sense. How can every producer dream of delivering a ‘Pokiri’ or a ‘Magadheera’? These kinds of movies may not happen every time.

If producers are to take the blame, they are easily pushing it on to the star heroes. Many of our young star heroes like Ramcharan, Junior NTR, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Pawan Kalyan etc are known to be demanding remunerations in the range of Rs.3 to Rs.5 crores for each movie while Balakrishna, Venkatesh and Nagarjuna are in the range of Rs.2 to 3 crores. Directors like Rajamouli, VV Vinayak, Srinu Vytla etc are demanding the same remunerations as heroes and heroines expecting more than Rs.1 crore…what could be the amount that is really left for producer to bring a quality product?

Posani in his natural style says it as only ‘Chatni’ amount which is actually spent on the making of movie. It requires more of logistic studies and a sense of logic to understand the movie making which many of present age realtors turned producers’ lack.

Producers Council Members have clearly heard the warning bells and have arranged for a meeting at Film Chamber today which came out with few measures to cut short the production costs of a movie.
